What is the Canto connector?

Canto is our DAM — Digital Asset Management, the master library where all of Melinda Maria's photography and video lives: product shots, campaign imagery, lifestyle photos, UGC, and clips — roughly 19,000+ images across ~894 albums. The Canto connector lets Claude search and organize that library for you. Describe what you're looking for and Claude finds it, reads its details, and gives you a download link.

🖼️ What it knows

Every asset in Canto — searchable by tag, keyword, owner, file type, date, approval status, and orientation. It reads metadata, EXIF, and custom fields, and can browse the whole folder tree and album list.

✍️ What it can do

Mostly look things up — but it can also tidy the library: add tags & keywords, set custom fields and approval status, and create albums and folders. It gives you authenticated download links for the files you want.

🧠 What makes it handy

You never need to know Canto's folder structure. Ask in plain English — "approved gold hoop product photos from this year" — and Claude does the searching, filtering, and link-fetching.

Why it matters: finding the right on-brand image used to mean scrolling through thousands of files. Now anyone — social, marketing, wholesale, CS — can pull exactly the right approved shot in seconds, just by describing it.

Connect it in about a minute

How to connect in three steps Open Settings then Connectors in Claude, find this connector and click Connect, then sign in once with the account noted below. Settings Profile Connectors Data controls 1 · Open Settings → Connectors MM This connectornot connected Connect 2 · Find it · click Connect you@melindamaria.com •••••••• Sign in ✓ 3 · Sign in once — done
In Claude: Settings → Connectors → find it → click Connect → sign in. It’s already added for the team, so this is a one-time, ~1-minute step (see “Which login” below).

The Canto connector is already set up in Claude for the team — you just switch it on and sign in. Takes about 30 seconds.

1
In Claude, open SettingsConnectors (or click the + in the message box → Connectors). Find Canto in the list — it's already there.
2
Click the + (or Connect) next to Canto.
3
When prompted, sign in with your Google work account (your @melindamaria.com email — the same one you use for Gmail & Drive). A personal Gmail won't work.
4
Approve the connection. It shows Connected — then try "Using Canto, search for necklace" — you should get image results.
🔑 Which login? You only ever sign in with your Melinda Maria Google work account. You never enter any Canto password or key — those are stored securely on our side.
No health command here: unlike some of our connectors, Canto doesn't have a "health" tool. To confirm it's working, just run a small search like the one above. Don't see "switch on the connector"? On managed plans only a Claude admin can add it — ask David.

How to ask — just say "use Canto…"

The connector is named Canto. The simplest way to make sure Claude uses it is to mention it in your request:

"Using Canto, <what you're looking for>."

You don't have to memorize tool names — plain English works. A few tips that get great results:

Describe the subject

"…gold hoop earrings", "…stacked rings on a hand", "…holiday gift-set flat-lays". The more specific the subject, the tighter the results.

Add filters

"…approved only", "…created this year", "…videos only", "…tagged campaign", "…landscape orientation". Canto can filter on all of these.

Ask for what you need next

"…give me download links", "…show me their tags and EXIF", "…how many match in total". Claude will fetch it.

Tidy as you go

"…add the tag 'Holiday 2025' to these", "…create an album called Spring Campaign and note what should go in it". Light organizing is built in.

Heads up on actions: most Canto use is reading and searching. The organizing tools (tags, custom fields, approval, new albums/folders) do change the library — Claude will tell you what it's about to do and let you confirm. A few write actions are blocked on Canto's side today (see Limits).

TopicWhat to knowStatus
Mostly read; safe editsSearching and reading are completely safe. The organizing tools (tags, keywords, custom fields, approval, new albums/folders) do change the library — Claude previews and you confirm before they run.You confirm
Tags & keywords barely used (yet)Verified live Aug 5, 2026: the library has only 3 keywords and most assets sit "Untagged" — so searching by text works great (9,700+ hits for "necklace") but browsing or filtering by tag/keyword finds almost nothing until the tagging project runs. Also plainly: this connector can write (tags, albums, upload) and has a delete tool — ask Claude to preview before any change.Plan around
A few tools blocked at Canto17 of 22 tools work. Five are currently blocked at Canto's own API: adding/removing assets to an album, uploading a new file, deleting an asset, and creating a brand-new keyword. If you ask for one of those, Claude will tell you it can't do it yet. Everything else — including search, metadata, tagging existing keywords, approval, and album/folder creation — works.Partial
No health commandThere's no canto_health tool. To check it's working, just run a small search (e.g. "Using Canto, search for necklace"). If that returns nothing or errors, flag it to David.By design
Download linksLinks are authenticated and meant for our team. Don't post them publicly — share with people who should have the assets.Handle with care
Approval mattersAlways prefer approved assets for anything customer-facing. If you're unsure whether a shot is cleared for use, ask Claude to check its approval status first.Good habit
Double-check before publishingFor anything going public, confirm you've got the final, approved, right-resolution file. Ask Claude to show the asset's details if in doubt.Verify

Something looks wrong?

If a search returns nothing it should, a download link won't open, or the connector says it can't reach Canto — tell David. Include what you asked and what you got back (a screenshot helps).

Want a new capability or report?

Want the blocked upload/album tools unlocked, or a recurring "what's new in Canto this week" digest? Send the idea to David. Some of the blocked tools are waiting on Canto; others are quick to add.

Quick test you can always run: "Using Canto, search for necklace". If it comes back empty or errors, that's the thing to send David.

What is a live artifact and how to share it

Short version: a live artifact is a page Claude builds once and then refreshes every single time you open it — so a dashboard you ask for today is still accurate next month. Here is what one is, and the three ways to get it in front of your team.

📊 NEW — build live artifacts, dashboards & spreadsheets with this connector

A live artifact is a small interactive page Claude builds and saves for you — a dashboard, tracker, or report that pulls fresh data from this connector every time you open it, instead of being a frozen snapshot. In a Cowork session, just ask: “create a live artifact that…” — it lands in your Artifacts list, reusable forever, and its charts and tables refresh themselves on open.

Sharing with the team: artifacts are saved to your Claude account. Three easy ways to share: (1) ask Claude to export a snapshot (PDF, image, or .xlsx) and drop it in Slack; (2) send a teammate the prompt that built it — their copy fills with live data through their own connector sign-in; (3) for a permanent all-team dashboard, that’s the MM Intelligence project on the AI roadmap.

How it works — architecture

Canto is a straight-through "live" connector — there's no stored copy, every question reads our real Canto library in the moment. You don't need any of this to use it, but here's what's running:

Canto MCP Connector — Architecture Canto DAM connector architecture: a Google-gated Cloudflare Worker that is its own OAuth 2.1 server (rebuilt because Cloudflare's managed-OAuth beta didn't issue usable tokens). Live reads against the Canto API; 17 of 22 tools work, 5 are blocked at Canto's API. No database. Self-hosted on Melinda Maria’s own Cloudflare account at canto-mcp.melindamaria.ai/mcp — the same hosting + Google sign-in pattern as our other connectors. All traffic over HTTPS/TLS.

Why live, not synced?

The asset library changes constantly as the team uploads and re-tags. A stored copy would go stale, so Canto reads live every time — what you see is exactly what's in Canto right now, including brand-new uploads.

Why a custom OAuth server?

Cloudflare's built-in managed-OAuth (in beta) wouldn't issue a working token for Canto, so we rebuilt the Worker as its own OAuth 2.1 sign-in server (Google + KV). That's why sign-in is rock-solid now — it's our code, not a beta.

Hosted like our others

It runs on our own Cloudflare account behind the same Google sign-in as every MM connector, with the Canto key kept server-side. The 5 unavailable tools are limits on Canto's side; the other 17 work today.

How your data flows (the 30-second version)

You don't need to understand the plumbing to use it — but here's the simple picture:

When you search for an asset

e.g. "find approved necklace photos from this spring" → Claude queries our live Canto library and returns matching assets with their details.

When you ask for the file

e.g. "give me download links for those" → Claude fetches secure, authenticated download URLs so you can grab the actual images or videos.

Everything happens behind a secure sign-in. The connector only works for people signing in with a @melindamaria.com or @7ate9.com Google account. These are our brand assets — share download links only with people who should have them.
